PETALING JAYA: Mohd Yusof Hafizi Shaharuddin claimed a historic gold medal for Malaysia in the Para Cycling Track World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Sunday.

The Perak-born Yusof won the men's C1 sprint title after beating Ricardo Ten Argiles of Spain in the final.

It is the second medal for Yusof after taking silver in the men's C1 1km time trial event on Thursday.

Yusof advanced to the final and put up a superb tactical ride to deny the Spaniard his fourth gold medal in the world meet. The Spaniard had won the elimination, scratch and 1km time trial events earlier.
