Aiman’s the man to chase

PETALING JAYA: It’s going to be a record for posterity. Terengganu Cycling Team B rider Mohd Nur Aiman Rosli made his way into the history books by winning the men’s elite time trial gold for the sixth consecutive time at the National Road Cycling Cham­pionships in Pagoh, Johor.

The Johor-born cyclist completed the 40.6km route in 50:31.405 to take gold. Dealton Nur Arif Prayogo of Jakarta Pro Cycling finished second in 51:32.970 while Terengganu Cycling Team A rider Mohd Nur Aiman Zariff took bronze with 52:02.463.

Aiman expressed satisfaction at defending his title and is already setting his sights on his next event.

“I managed to retain the title for the sixth time and I’m happy to achieve it ... the route was quite rolling and tough.

“I am pleased with the result. My performance is getting better and I’ll be focusing on preparing for the next event, the road race,” said the 26-year-old.

Aiman’s result bodes well for Malaysia in the Thailand SEA Games in December although the cycling events have yet to be finalised.

At the last SEA Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, two years ago, Terengganu Cycling Team’s (TSG) professional cyclist Nur Amirull Fakhruddin Mazuki won gold in the road race event.

At the 2021 SEA Games in Hanoi, the Malaysian national squad guided by legendary coach Datuk Ng Joo Ngan made up for the loss in the 2019 edition in the Philippines after Nur Aiman ​​Zariff won the gold medal in the road race event.

In the Under-23 category, Terengganu Cycling Team A’s Kee Zhe Yie clinched gold with a time of 50:55.535. Perak A’s Adam Hakimi Nazuan secured silver in 52:23.156 while Johor’s Nazirul Aniq Abd Rahman took bronze with 53:14.426.

Malaysia Pro Cycling (MPC) clinched a comfortable victory in the men’s team time trial event through Faiz Fakhri Omar, Ariff Danial Roseidi, Akmal Hakim Zakaria and Zahin Wahhi 1’06:05.709.

Police’s Elmi Jumari, Shaiful Adlan Shukri and brothers Ameer and Ameen Ahmad Kamal took second place (1’07:27.303) while Aquatwo Cyclomotion (Iqmal Mohd Zarawi, Nasrul Firas Ridzuan and Zamirul Azrezza Zulkefli) finished third (1’11:14.338).
