Cycling-Intermarche–Wanty's Faure-Prost sustains fractures, concussion after being hit by car

(Reuters) -French cyclist Alexy Faure-Prost's routine training session turned into a nightmare when he was struck by a car, but the 21-year-old escaped with fractures and a concussion.

His team, Intermarche–Wanty, on Friday said Faure-Prost has started recovering at home after undergoing surgery. The incident occurred on Tuesday, a day before La Fleche Wallonne.

Faure-Prost finished 10th overall in the Tour of Oman last year after having switched to Intermarche–Wanty from Wanty–Nippo–ReUz.

"I collided with a vehicle and suffered a head injury with loss of memory, convulsions, 2 fractures in my left hand and a fractured left collarbone, which required stitches," Faure-Prost posted on Instagram on Friday.

"I came home after 2 days in hospital and 1 successful hand operation!

"Take care on the road, see you soon!"

La Fleche Wallonne, a one-day race, started in the Belgian city of Ciney and concluded in Huy on April 23. It was won by UAE Team Emirates XRG's Slovenian rider, Tadej Pogacar.
