Virandeep fires Malaysia to SEA Games cricket gold

Cricket team win gold.

BANGKOK: The Malaysian cricket team have lived up to their tag as favourites after clinching the T20 (twenty overs) gold in the SEA Games.

They beat Singapore by six wickets in the final round-robin match at the TerdThai Cricket Grounds here on Saturday (Dec 13).

The win sees them collecting eight points from four matches to clinch the title.

When fielding, the side led by captain Syed Aziz Syed Mubarak, did well to limit Singapore to just 110 runs in 19.3 overs, in the second innings.

Spinner Pavandeep Singh was the toast when he took three wickets for just 17 runs during that innings. Aziz also got three wickets but for 29 runs.

Talisman and Pavandeep’s brother, Virandeep Singh proved his worth with the bat, scoring 65 runs from 40 balls.

And Malaysia just needed 11.4 overs to win the game.

It was Malaysia’s 12th gold medal in the Games edition
