A LASER-Run and Family Sports Day was held at Cempaka Cheras School in conjunction with the school’s 35th anniversary celebrations.

Laser-Run is a sport invented by the United Internationale Modern Pentathlon Federation (UIPM), which combines laser shooting and running.

A total of 636 participants took part in the event which was also aimed at forging a closer relationship between the school, students, parents and community.

“We are so used to getting out of bed early in the morning for school and work, but this run helped get teachers, alumni, parents and students to come together to observe our 35th anniversary,” said Cempaka Schools Malaysia (CSM) director Iskandar Hishamuddin Hamzah.

CSM founder Datuk Freida Mohd Pilus also described the run as a blend of the school’s objective, life and sports.

“During the event, participants had to shoot their targets on the field to earn points for their team.

“It is also how we strive for our targets in life and we have five main targets – humility, happiness, togetherness, empathy and joy.

“It also justifies our objective to work together as a family.

“The family is not about a unit of a small family, but about the sum of the small families that makes up the school community and the bigger community of our nation,” she said.

Spotted at the run was a supportive mother, Joanne Tan, 51, who much enjoyed the run.

“Parents are encouraged to take part in this run. Besides, the environment is also very relaxed as it is about finishing the run, not about competing for medals.

“I will definitely join this run again next year,” Tan said.
