Bowler Yahya wins again at Asean Para Games after nine years

PETALING JAYA: Abg Yahya Abg Azhar ended a nine-year wait for a gold medal at the Asean Para Games in Thailand by winning the  PTB4 (intellectual impairment) men’s singles event at the at the Blu-O Rhythm and Bowl in Bangkok on Thursday (Jan 22).

Yahya lived up to his billing as a world champion after finishing top of the standings with 1,243 pins. 

The Sarawakian kegler, who recently secured a world title in Hong Kong, displayed clinical precision to clinch the gold medal, finishing ahead of silver medalist Mohd Razif Iskandar Abdul Muiz, also from Malaysia, who amassed 1,136.

Bronze medal fell to Thailand’s Suaithong Phongsakon, who scored 1,106.

Yahya’s last Asean Para Games title came in the 2017 edition in Kuala Lumpur.

It was Malaysian bowling squad's second gold in the Games. 

Earlier on Wednesday, Mohd Rizal Hassan won the TPB3 (visual impairment) gold medal when he beat Thailand’s Denpong Chantaramanee 1104-1085 in the final.
