Super show: Timmy Tan was on a roll at the PBA Pete Weber Missouri Classic.
KUALA LUMPUR: National bowler Timmy Tan is edging closer to his maiden Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour title after advancing to the stepladder finals of the PBA Pete Weber Missouri Classic.
Competing at Enterprise Park Lanes in Springfield, Missouri, Timmy delivered a stellar performance, overcoming two top-seeded opponents to secure his place in the final.
His first victim was PBA Regional Tour titles champion AJ Chapman, whom he edged out 4-3 (268-232, 177-212, 226-208, 164-199, 223-244, 212-166, 245-201).
The 30-year-old then continued his fine form to defeat 2023 PBA Players Championship winner Kevin McCune 4-1 (257-257, 256-224, 226-205, 235-233, 185-204, 202-185).
Riding on that momentum, he went on to stun 12-time Tour winner Kyle Troup in the next round with a hard-fought 4-3 victory (225-193, 225-186, 215-247, 175-258, 183-257, 256-235).
Earlier in the qualifying round, after 18 games, Timmy put on an impressive display to secure a spot in the knockout stage, finishing 12th with a total of 3,935 pinfalls.
For Timmy, after struggling last year, he is relieved to have delivered such a strong performance against the world's best bowlers in this tournament.
"Making the show is a great feeling after the struggles last year but the job is not done," said Timmy.
"I'll have to adjust fast and make good shots as the pressure will be enormous as every one is an established bowler with a lot of experience.
My confidence is high going into the matches, and hoping for the best of outcomes," said Timmy.
Timmy will enter the stepladder finals today as the third seed, where he will face either Barrett or Barnes.
If he prevails, he will go up against second seed Tim Foy Jr, before taking on top seed Eddie Dean Tackett in the final showdown for the title.
