Scotland end Malaysia's 3x3 dream

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games men's 3x3 basketball competition ended after a 21-16 defeat to Scotland in the quarter-finals on Tuesday (July 29).

Ee Kee Lip's men, who impressed in the group stage by losing just once, were unable to reproduce that form in the knockout rounds at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) Hall.

Malaysia, represented by Chang Zi Fueng, Chong Zhen Yang, Ting Chun Hong and Ooi Xian Fu, fought hard but were unable to overcome a strong Scotland side made up of Kyle Jimenez, Fraser Malcolm, Owe McCormack and Skyler White.

Singapore also bowed out in the quarter-finals after losing to New Zealand.

Scotland will next face Australia for a place in the final, while New Zealand take on England in the other semi-final.

Although Malaysia fell short of their semi-final target, the campaign was still an encouraging one as it marked the country's first appearance in the Commonwealth Games 3x3 basketball competition since the event was introduced at Birmingham 2022.
