Coach Nova gives Clarissa a chance alongside Tang Jie

PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles head coach Nova Widianto believes Clarissa San deserves an opportunity at the highest level, naming the youngster as Chen Tang Jie's temporary partner.

The Indonesian coach regards the 19-year-old as one of the brightest prospects in the mixed doubles squad and hopes partnering Tang Jie will accelerate her development.

Tang Jie is currently without his regular partner Toh Ee Wei, who is sidelined with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in her right knee.

As such, Nova is keen to see how Clarissa fares alongside Tang Jie after the pair were entered for the Japan Open from July 14-19 and potentially the China Open in Changzhou the following week.

"I chose Clarissa because I feel she has been one of our most promising junior players.

"Among the younger players, I think she has stood out the most.

"I'm not looking too far ahead yet, but for the Japan Open and China Open, I want to give her a chance while we wait to see how Ee Wei's situation develops," said Nova.

Clarissa previously enjoyed success with Datu Anif Isaac Asrah, capturing both the Bangladesh International Series and Bangladesh International Challenge titles in December.

She also won the national title last year alongside Wee Yee Tern.
