Hopes of all-Malaysian final dashed as Arif-Roy King lose to Danish pair

PETALING JAYA: Men's doubles pair Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King have lost to Denmark's Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard in the Malaysian Masters semi-finals on Saturday (May 23).

Arif-Roy King went into the match at the Unifi Arena in Bukit Jalil with a 4-0 winning record over the Danish pair.

However, they struggled to find their rhythm and fell 19-21, 17-21 in 48 minutes.

"First of all, I want to apologise to all our supporters because we could not win today. We really wanted to win but our opponents played better than us.

"After the match, we discussed it and I think today's defeat came down to our energy. Maybe our energy dropped. Hopefully, we can recover and come back stronger at the Singapore Open next week," said Arif.

Lundgaard-Vestergaard will now face former world No. 1 pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani in Sunday's final (May 24).
