Herry dismisses Haikal exit rumours

PETALING JAYA: National men’s doubles head coach Herry Iman Pierngadi has dismissed rumours that Mohd Haikal Nazri is set to leave the national squad.

World No. 29 Haikal was reported to have submitted a resignation letter, but Herry denied the claim and clarified that he remains part of the national set-up.

“That is not true (the rumours about him leaving the national team). Haikal is still with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM),” said Herry.

Haikal, 23, was previously involved in a controversy after withdrawing from the Swiss Open in March due to injury.

The decision did not sit well with Herry, who felt that Haikal and his then partner Choong Hon Jian were fit to compete.

The situation was later resolved after Haikal personally apologised to Herry.

Haikal has since been paired with Bryan Jeremy Goonting, while Hon Jian is now partnering Wong Vin Sean, with both pairs set to compete in the Thailand Open next month.
