PETALING JAYA: Doubles shuttler M. Thinaah has opened up about the heartbreak she went through after losing her grandmother and pet rabbit within the space of a few weeks.
Thinaah, who partnered Pearly Tan to end Malaysia’s 12-year wait for a women’s doubles medal at the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya on Tuesday, revealed that her grandmother passed away two days after the World Championships began in New Delhi last month.
“On Aug 21, 2026, my grandma passed away. It was just two days after the World Championships started in New Delhi.
“I flew straight back, and I’m grateful that I could see her one last time before sending her off. I lost someone who was always eagerly waiting for me to come home after every tournament. I did come home this time but it was too late.
“But knowing you went peacefully makes my heart feel at ease. Yes, I miss you so much but I know you are always guiding me from above. I miss you Amzy,” said Thinaah in a post on social media.
Three weeks later, Thinaah was dealt another blow when her pet rabbit Roger died.
“Three weeks later, I lost my Roger boy. My gundy bunny.
“But Bunny didn’t feel any pain and left peacefully. I know you’re in a better place, hopping freely and joyfully now, my baby bunny,” she added.
