Lower-ranked Zi Yu-Noraqilah hoping to enjoy a high at Asian meet in Ningbo

Best achievement: Low Zi Yu-Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan won the silver medal at the World Junior Championships last October.

PETALING JAYA: National women’s doubles pair Low Zi Yu-Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan will head into the Asian Championships in Ningbo, China, with little pressure but plenty to prove.

Currently ranked No. 248 in the world rankings, the young duo will be making their debut at the tournament, largely flying under the radar. Their status as newcomers could actually work in their favour, allowing them to compete without the burden of expectations that often weigh on more established players.

Zi Yu-Noraqilah’s best achievements include a silver medal at the World Junior Championships last October, followed by a title win at the Estonian International in January.

Also making their debut in the women’s doubles draw are world No. 43 Chong Jie Yu-Vanessa Ng.

Both pairs will join seasoned duos Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah and Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting, offering a balanced mix of experience and youth in the national contingent.

For the debutants, the objective is clear – gain exposure, rise to the challenge, and use the tournament as a benchmark against Asia’s top shuttlers.

In the men’s singles, Malaysia will be represented by Leong Jun Hao and Justin Hoh, while K. Letshanaa, Wong Ling Ching and Goh Jin Wei will feature in the women’s singles.

The men’s doubles squad includes defending champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, who will be aiming to retain their title, along with Man Wei Chong–Tee Kai Wun, Goh Sze Fei–Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, and Wan Arif Wan Junaidi–Yap Roy King.

In the mixed doubles, reigning world champions Chen Tang Jie–Toh Ee Wei will lead the charge, alongside Goh Soon Huat–Shevon Lai Jemie, Hoo Pang Ron–Cheng Su Yin, and Wong Tien Ci–Lim Chiew Sien.
