PETALING JAYA: Former Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) general manager Phua Tai Neng passed away on March 4 at the age of 69.

Tai Neng had served as a sports administrator in several organisations before moving into the corporate world.

He joined BAM as its first general manager when the post was created in January 1997.

Prior to that, he held a senior position at the National Sports Council (NSC) as director of international affairs before serving the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) as assistant secretary from 2002 to 2007.

He later left the sports scene to focus on his role as honorary secretary-general of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta).

BAM secretary Datuk Kenny Goh said: “On behalf of BAM, we extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

“Mr Phua will always be remembered for his contribution as the general manager. We are grateful for the many years he devoted to the sport.”
