PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttler Hoo Pang Ron’s time with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has officially come to an end.
The 28-year-old has taken the first step in his journey as an independent player after spending 10 years with the national set-up.
“After 10 incredible years, it’s time for me to close this chapter with BAM,” said Pang Ron on social media.
“Walking into this journey a decade ago, I was just a young player with big dreams and endless hunger to improve.
“Along the way, BAM became more than just a place I trained – it became a home that shaped me into who I am today, both on and off the court.”
Pang Ron’s last outing under BAM was alongside former partner Cheng Su Yin at the Asian Championships in Ningbo, China, last month.
During his time in BAM, Pang Ron had partnered several players, including Cheah Yee See, Peck Yen Wei, Teoh Mei Xing and Toh Ee Wei.
“There were highs that felt unforgettable, and lows that tested everything in me. Every early morning training, every tough loss, every small victory – all of it built me into the person I’ve become today.
“The lessons, discipline and resilience I’ve gained here will stay with me for life.
“I’m deeply grateful to all the coaches, National Sports Institute staff, teammates, BAM staff, and everyone behind the scenes who have supported and believed in me throughout this journey.
“Thank you for your guidance, your patience, and for pushing me to be better every single day,” he said.
Pang Ron will be joining the independent set-up under coach Teo Kok Siang and will be partnering with Lai Pei Jing.
“This isn’t a goodbye to badminton – just the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. I’m excited for what’s ahead and ready to take on new challenges with everything I’ve learned.
“Thank you, BAM, for the past 10 years. Always grateful,” he said.
Meanwhile, Su Yin will be partnering Jimmy Wong, who was offered to return to BAM and they will be making their first appearance together at the Malaysian Masters from May 19-24.
