Jun Hao rips up form book to reach All-England second round

PETALING JAYA: Men’s singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao proved his critics wrong after advancing to the second round of the All-England on Tuesday (March 3).

The world No. 26 stunned Japan’s world No. 13 Kenta Nishimoto 21-17, 13-21, 21-18 in a gruelling 81 minute battle.

The victory sends Jun Hao into the second round where he will face another Japanese opponent, Koki Watanabe.

Meanwhile, in the men’s doubles, Teo Ee Yi-Ong Yew Sin bowed out after going down 9-21, 17-21 to Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian-Shohibul Fikri.

Choong Hon Jian-Mohd Haikal Nazri also suffered an early exit after losing 13-21, 17-21 to Denmark’s Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.
