PETALING JAYA: Malaysian shuttlers have been told to stay focused on their All-England campaign after arriving safely in Birmingham.
Some of the players from Kuala Lumpur departed on Friday, just before flight operations were suspended in several locations due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Those who competed at the German Open in Mulheim travelled directly from there to Birmingham for the prestigious tournament starting on Tuesday (March 3).
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) performance committee chairman Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei, who is scheduled to leave for Birmingham on Tuesday, said all is well on the ground.
“Fortunately, some of our top players left on Friday and are safely in Birmingham. I will be leaving later, so it should not be a problem,” said Chong Wei.
“Of course, some are nervous when thinking about their return plans, but I’ve told them that everything will be taken care of. They just have to focus on the game.”
While the Malaysians managed to cross borders without any hiccups, it was not the same for some Indian players, including P.V. Sindhu, who has been stranded in Dubai.
