PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s campaign at the prestigious All-England has received a timely boost with Man Wei Chong and Cheng Su Yin cleared to compete in the tournament starting on Tuesday in Birmingham.

National doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky confirmed that both players had already left to Birmingham yesterday with the rest of the squad.

Wei Chong, who partners Tee Kai Wun in men’s doubles, had been a fitness concern after sustaining a knee injury.

The world No. 6 pair withdrew from the German Open earlier this week on medical advice to allow him adequate recovery time.

Su Yin, meanwhile, had been nursing a right calf injury suffered during training two weeks ago. She competes in mixed doubles with Hoo Pang Ron.

Following medical assessments, both players have been declared fit to return.

"Wei Chong and Su Yin are ready for the All-England. Skipping the German Open gave Wei Chong time to fully recover. Su Yin is also fine, she has been training normally," said Rexy.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun will open their campaign against Taiwan’s Lee Fang Chih-Lee Fang Jen.

The Malaysians hold a 2-0 head-to-head advantage, having beaten the Taiwanese duo at last year’s Indonesia Masters and the 2024 Swiss Open.

Pang Ron and Su Yin face a stern test against world No. 20 pair Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto. The last time they met, at the Asian Championships in Ningbo, the Indian pair came out on top.
