PETALING JAYA: Women’s doubles pair Low Zi Yu-Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan opened the new season in style after clinching their first international title by winning the Estonian International Challenge on Sunday (Jan 11).

The match, held at the Kalev Sports Hall in Tallinn, saw the reunited Zi Yu-Noraqilah cruise past the American pair Audrey Chang-Jasmine Yeung, 21-14, 21-19, in 35 minutes.

What made the victory even more impressive was the fact that their opponents are ranked No. 22 in the world.

As champions, Zi Yu-Noraqilah received 1,000 euros (RM4,744.80) in prize money.

The pairing had previously caught the eye at the World Junior Championships in Guwahati, India, in October last year, where they secured a silver medal.

They will next head to Uppsala to compete in the Swedish Open, which begins on Thursday (Jan 15).

Zi Yu-Noraqilah are scheduled to face home pair Miranda Johansson-Ashwati Pillai.
