Aaron-Wooi Yik reach Malaysian Open final after thrilling semi-final win

BUKIT JALIL: World No. 2 men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik secured a hard-fought spot in the Malaysian Open final after defeating Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian-Shohibul Fikri in Saturday’s (Jan 10) semi-final.

The atmosphere at Axiata Arena was electric, with nearly 10,000 home fans roaring the duo on as they battled to keep Malaysia’s hopes alive.

It was no easy ride for Aaron-Wooi Yik, who were pushed to a full 50 minutes before emerging victorious 23-21, 21-18.

In the final, they will face defending champions Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae, who earlier came from behind to beat Ben Lane-Sean Vendy 8-21, 21-11, 21-18.

The last time a Malaysian men’s doubles pair won the Malaysian Open was 12 years ago, when Goh V Shem and Lim Khim Wah claimed the title in 2014.
