Tang Jie-Ee Wei suffer shock loss in SEA Games semis

BANGKOK: Mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei’s hopes of reaching the SEA Games final were dashed after they suffered a shock defeat to homesters Ruttanapak Oupthong-Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat.

The reigning world champions were the favourites against the world No. 13 Thais but could not raise their game and went down 15-21, 16-21 in 44 minutes at Thammasat University in Pathum Thani on Saturday (Dec 13).

It was world No. 3 Tang Jie-Ee Wei’s first defeat in four meetings against Ruttanapak-Jhenicha.

Malaysia’s challenge in the mixed doubles ended in the Games after the pair’s loss.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei will have to settle for bronze in their maiden outing together in the biennial Games.
