Coach Herry sticks with proven doubles pairs for SEA Games final

BANGKOK: Men’s doubles coach Herry Iman Pierngadi has put his faith in the established combinations of Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun instead of forming scratch pairings for the SEA Games men’s team final against Indonesia on Wednesday (Dec 10).

Based on the line-up released on Dec 10, world No. 2 Aaron-Wooi Yik will face world No. 8 Sabar Gutama-Moh Reza. If the tie extends to the fourth match, world No. 5 Wei Chong-Kai Wun are set to meet world No. 19 Leo Rolly-Bagas Maulana at Thammasat University in Pathum Thani.

In the opening singles, world No. 28 Leong Jun Hao is expected to take on world No. 17 Alwi Farhan, while Justin Hoh (world No. 38) will face Moh Zaki Ubaidillah (world No. 48) in the second singles.

If the tie goes down to the wire, world No. 47 Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin is slated to meet world No. 80 Yohanes Saut in the deciding third singles.

Malaysia are hoping to end a 20-year wait for gold in the men’s team event, having last captured the title at the 2005 Games in the Philippines.
