All-Malaysian final: Chia Weijie-Lwi Sheng Hao beat compatriots Mohd Faiq Masawi-Lok Hong Quan 21-5, 16-21, 21-17 in the Syed Modi International semi-finals.
PETALING JAYA: Independent men’s doubles shuttlers Chia Weijie-Lwi Sheng Hao will get a swift shot at redemption against world junior champions Aaron Tai-Kang Khai Xing after reaching the final of the Syed Modi International.
Weijie-Sheng Hao booked their spot in the title match after edging compatriots Mohd Faiq Masawi-Lok Hong Quan 21-5, 16-21, 21-17 in an all-Malaysian semi-final in Lucknow yesterday, sealing their second international final in as many months.
The pair were also finalists at the Malaysian Super 100 last month, where they were comprehensively beaten 18-21, 7-21 by Aaron-Khai Xing – the same duo who now stand between them and the title.
Aaron-Khai Xing, seeded sixth, continued their fine run by ousting Russia’s Rodion Alimov-Maksim Ogloblin 21-15, 22-20 in the other semi-final, guaranteeing Malaysia the men’s doubles crown.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s campaign in the women’s doubles came to an end after Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting were defeated 11-21, 15-21 by top seeds Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand.
