PETALING JAYA: Newly crowned mixed doubles world champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei have decided to withdraw from the Korean Open starting on Tuesday (Sept 23) due to injury trouble.

The decision did not come as a surprise as the pair wanted sufficient rest, with Ee Wei admitting she was not in her best condition due to back trouble during the China Masters last week.

In a statement released by Badminton Association of Malaysia, Ee Wei it seems is carrying a right-side core injury and will undergo further assessment upon her return in Malaysia.

Even so, Tang Jie-Ee Wei still managed to reach the final before going down to Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran.

According to the initial draw, the third seeds were scheduled to meet Macau’s Leong Iok Chong-Ng Wen Chi in the opening round.

Earlier, men’s doubles pairs Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, along with women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, had also withdrawn from the tournament to take a break from their hectic schedule.
