Netizens rally behind Liek Hou in reward row

PETALING JAYA: Netizens are standing by para shuttler Cheah Liek Hou after the Paralympic Council of Malaysia (PCM)’s decision to take action against the latter for his recent social media post.

Paris Paralympic champion Liek Hou had criticised PCM for not delivering on their promise of rewarding him RM60,000 a year after the showpiece event.

PCM president Datuk Seri Megat D Shahriman Zaharudin, though, denied promising the 37-year-old RM60,000 and has decided to take action against Liek Hou for “slandering” the organisation.

Netizens took to social media to hit out at PCM.

“Suing a Paralympian and pushing to have him banned? Do you even realise it takes twice the effort for a disabled athlete to train, compete and shine on the world stage?” questioned Tan Li Ming.

“Instead of tearing them down, we should be proud – glorify their achievements, not bully them.

“They are Paralympic gold medallists and every medal represents extraordinary grit.”

“Shamelessly bully a Paralympic sportsman? Don’t you feel ashamed?” questioned Chiam Soon King.

“Imagine if they could do this to a Paralympian, what else they are capable of,” said Prashan Gunaseharan.

“PCM should revamp instead,” said Wong Chung Shyoong.

“Where’s Hannah Yeoh, please come forward you are needed,” said Johnson Yeoh.

“You should have protected the wellness of the athletes who fight hard for the country,” said Andy Yong.

“But why he can’t voice out when it’s a fact that he didn’t receive the money as agreed?” questioned Choon Kiat Tan.

“You yourself also acknowledged the money is not paid out.”
