SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government is ready to consider adjusting the competition schedules for certain events at the Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma), including extending competitions into the night.
State Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi said this was due to haze conditions and unsatisfactory Air Pollutant Index (API) readings, which had resulted in several outdoor events, including archery, being temporarily postponed.
"Regarding the effects of the haze, there may be changes to event competition schedules, but no events have been cancelled. So, we will certainly try to make adjustments to the afternoon and evening slots to meet the requirements of the events, but not until late at night, and they will most likely finish before 10pm.
"For example, for today’s archery event, we have rescheduled it since the air pollutant index reading is still unsatisfactory and it will resume once conditions improve,” he said.
He told reporters this after accompanying Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohd Taufiq Johari to take a closer look at the para badminton event at Dewan Kombes on Tuesday (Sept 8). — Bernama
