Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei exit Japan Open in semi-finals


PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei's impressive run in the Japan Open ended after losing to China's world No. 2 pair, Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin, in the semi-finals.

The world No. 4 pair struggled against Zhenbang and Yaxin, losing 12-21, 16-21 in 38 minutes at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Saturday (July 19).

This marks Tang Jie and Ee Wei's third defeat to the Chinese duo in four meetings, prolonging their wait to reach a final this year.

Meanwhile, Zhenbang and Yaxin, the defending champions, will face Thailand's Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran for the title on Sunday (July 20).

The Thai pair stunned another Chinese duo, world No. 1 Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping, with a 21-13, 21-17 victory in the other semi-final match.
