Sze Fei-Izzuddin set to reach No.1 in men's doubles world rankings

KUALA LUMPUR: Men's doubles shuttlers Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani are set to reach No. 1 in the world rankings.

World No. 2 Sze Fei-Izzuddin are expected to overtake current world No. 1 Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen when the rankings list is officially updated on Tuesday (May 27) after the Danish pair failed to defend their Malaysian Masters title.

Astrup-Rasmussen went down to world No. 3 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik in the semi-finals on Saturday (May 24).

Although Sze Fei-Izzuddin lost in the quarter-finals to fellow Malaysians Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun in the tourney, they will still become world No. 1, thanks to their fine form last year and in January this year.

The independent pair captured the China Open, Japan Open, and Arctic Open titles in 2024 and finished runners-up in the World Tour Finals and Asian Championships.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin also won the Indian Open in January and will become the first Malaysians to reach world No. 1 in the men's doubles since Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong in 2016.
