PETALING JAYA: Give me 100 days to present my mission and roadmap for BAM.
That was the request from newly-appointed Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz, shortly after officially assuming the post during the association’s 80th Annual General Meeting in Bukit Kiara on Saturday (May 10).
Zafrul was officially named BAM’s 13th president, taking over from Tan Sri Norza Zakaria, who stepped down in August last year. The post had been held on an interim basis by Datuk V. Subramaniam.
This election also saw Subramaniam retain his position as deputy president I, while Datuk Seri Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunoos was appointed deputy president II.
The BAM council also agreed to retain Datuk Kenny Goh as secretary-general, Datuk Teoh Teng Chor as treasurer, with Mohd Taufik Hussain continuing as deputy treasurer.
Zafrul said he first needed to gather input from all stakeholders before putting his plans into motion to take BAM to greater heights.
“I understand that this is no easy task. It’s a heavy responsibility, but I’m excited and eager to work together with the entire BAM family to elevate the sport we all love to greater heights.
“I know many who are here today are eager to hear my vision for BAM. I ask that you give me 100 days. I intend to use this time to meet and engage deeply with all stakeholders – players, both senior and junior, coaches, state associations, sponsors – essentially everyone with a stake in BAM’s future,” said Zafrul.
“Give me this time to listen, to understand, and to thoroughly examine the views, suggestions and challenges from all perspectives. I believe this inclusive approach is key to developing a comprehensive and realistic roadmap.
“After the 100-day period, God willing, I will present my strategic vision and detailed action plan, together with our team here at BAM. I’m aware that every organisation, especially a national sports body like BAM, has its own set of challenges,” he added.
