Aaron-Wooi Yik secure spot in Indian Open quarters

KUALA LUMPUR: Men's doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik have bounced back to form as they reached the quarter-finals of the Indian Open.

The fifth-seeded pair made light work of new Chinese duo Xie Haonan-Zang Weihan, ranked 39th in the world, in their second-round match on Thursday (Jan 16).

Aaron-Wooi Yik required just 34 minutes to seal a comfortable 21-10, 21-18 victory.

The win also served as redemption after their defeat to the same pair in last year's Asia Team Championships final in Setia Alam.

"I think it's about the mental side first. It's about how calm we are throughout the process, especially since they are a young pair and this was our first time meeting them, so we didn't know what to expect.

"They gave us a tough fight, but we did well by focusing on our gameplay, and at the crucial points, we managed to stay calm," said Wooi Yik in a post match interview with the Badminton World Federation.

In the quarter-finals on Friday (Jan 17), they will face the winner of the match between Indonesia's Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto and Thailand's Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Kittinupong Kedren.
