Roy King still keen on doing double duty

Going strong: Yap Roy King (right) is having an encouraging season with men’s doubles partner Wan Arif Wan Junaidi.

KUALA LUMPUR: National shuttler Yap Roy King intends to continue competing in two categories – the men’s doubles and mixed doubles – just like he did before.

Despite having an encouraging season in the men’s doubles with Wan Arif Wan Junaidi, the 24-year-old player believes he still has the qualities to compete in the mixed doubles.

“I indeed like to play in the mixed doubles and I feel capable of playing in two categories. I am also still enthusiastic and can handle both,” he said when met recently.

Meanwhile, Roy King said he may be paired with other players temporarily following Valeree Siow’s knee injury which has forced her to be sidelined for an extended period.

However, he admitted that he still does not know who will be his temporary partner for the mixed doubles.

“I’m still not sure who my new partner is, but I’ve suggested a few names to the coach. Because there are many things that need to be considered for my new partner later.

“But the coach said that I would play with a new partner so that the feeling of the tournament (mixed doubles) would not be lost,” he said. — Bernama
