PETALING JAYA: Former international Yeoh Kay Bin may become Lee Zii Jia's latest coach if all falls into place.

It is learnt from a close source that Team LZJ may have approached the 44-year-old Kay Bin to take over the vacant spot left by Wong Tat Meng, whose contract was not extended. Tat Meng had guided Zii Jia to win a bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Paris this year.

Before Tat Meng, Indonesian Indra Wijaya had coached Zii Jia when he had just begun his professional journey.

Kay Bin was one of the first batch of players who began training at Badminton Association of Malaysia's previous training centre in Taman Maluri and one of the top men singles players during the pre-era of Lee Chong Wei.

He was from the same batch with James Chua, Lee Tsuen Seng, Sairul Amar Ayob, to mention a few.

Kay Bin was the world junior runners-up at the 1998 World Junior Championships in Melbourne and won the bronze at the 2007 Asian Championships in Johor Baru,

He may have not achieved much during his playing days but he is a respected coach at the New Vision Badminton Academy and had even coaching stint under Li Mao in China after retiring as a player.

If all discussions end well, Kay Bin may lead Zii Jia as early as the Malaysian Open from Jan 7-12 at Axiata Arena in Bukit Kiara.
