PETALING JAYA: Shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei created history by becoming the first Malaysian mixed doubles pair to reach the final in the World Tour Finals.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei played brilliantly to beat fellow Malaysians and world No. 10 Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie 21-15, 21-12 in 42 minutes in the last four in Hangzhou on Saturday (Dec 14).

It was the world No. 8 pair's second win over the independent duo in the tournament after also coming out on top in the group stage match.

“It’s always not easy to play against fellow Malaysians as we know each other’s game play very well,” said Ee Wei in a post match interview with the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

“Of course they are our seniors and we need to learn a lot from them and when we go on to the court, we just give our best and fight hard.

“Our job is not done yet, so we need to calm down and focus on tomorrow’s match,” she added.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei are now just one step away from capturing the biggest title in their careers.

Standing in their way in the final will be either China's Paris Olympics gold medallists Zheng Siwei-Huang Yaqiong or the latter's teammates and world No. 2 Jiang Zhenbang-Wei Yaxin.
