Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei start strong at World Tour Finals

PETALING JAYA: Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei have made a brilliant start by winning their Group B opening game at the World Tour Finals in Hangzhou, China on Wednesday (Dec 11).

The duo made a remarkable comeback to beat compatriots and professionals Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie with a superb 14-21, 21-10, 21-14 victory.

With this win against the seniors, the record between the country’s top two pairs stands at 3-3.

Tang Jie and Ee Wei will face Dejan Ferdinansyah and Gloria Emanuelle of Indonesia, and a win could secure them a place in the semi-finals.

Soon Huat and Shevon have a tough task ahead, as they need to beat Hiroki Midorikawa and Natsu Saito of Japan to stay in the tournament.

“We got off to a shaky start. It is because we adopted the wrong strategy. We got it right after that and played with a much calmer manner,” said Ee Wei.
