Wei Xiang lands U-16 boys’ singles title at Junior Elite Tour

PETALING JAYA: Shuttler Kong Wei Xiang rose to the occasion to capture the Under-16 boys’ singles title at the Affin 100 Plus Junior Elite Tour Finals.

Wei Xiang stayed composed to beat fellow Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) player Lim Boon Le 21-14, 21-15 in the final in Putrajaya yesterday.

Boon Le, though, made up for the defeat by combining with Tiew Wei Jie to grab the boys’ doubles crown.

Boon Le-Wei Jie fought hard to overcome another BAM pair Ahmad Redzuan Zulwaqqarizal-Isyraf Hafizin Ibrahim 22-20, 12-21, 21-17 in a thrilling 57-minute final.

In the girls’ singles, Sabah’s Saidatul Saadiah Muhd caught the eye when she stunned BAM’s Ong Xin Ru 21-19, 21-17 to win the title.

The victory crowned a great tournament for Saidatul, who also toppled another BAM player, Lee Mun in the last four.

Lee Mun made amends for her shock loss by capturing the girls’ doubles crown with Carine Tee.

The pair blew away teammates Teh Si Yan-Teh Xin Ying 21-9, 21-9 in a one-sided final.
