Amin not letting age become a barrier between him and his dream

PETALING JAYA: Para shuttler Mohd Amin Burhanuddin (pic) only joined the national team at the age of 30 but he is not letting age stop him from fulfilling his dreams.

Amin, who was born with a deformity in his right leg, was selected in the national team in 2022 and went on to win bronze in the men’s singles SL4 (lower body impairment) in the Asean Para Games in Solo, Indonesia, that year.

He then captured gold in the next edition in Cambodia.

Amin also came close to winning the title in his debut Asian Para Games in Hangzhou last October before settling for silver.

“I’m thankful for the opportunities given to me in the national team and I want to continue giving my very best,” said Amin.

“I had a right leg defect when I was born and had to undergo surgery. My leg had to be in a cast until the age of seven.

“My family then encouraged me to play badminton and I was an independent player before I was selected in the national team.”

Besides shining in multi-sports events, Amin also captured the international titles in Bahrain, Japan and Dubai last year.

Despite his achievements so far, Amin has been flying under the radar but he is just fine with it.

His next big target is to make the cut for the Paris Paralympics.

“My aim is to qualify for my first Paralympics this year,” said Amin.

“I need to do well in the World Championships (Feb 20-25) to be assured of a spot in the Paralympics.

“I will be competing in my first world meet and I want to win a medal.”
