Wiser Mei Xing eyeing better outing in world meet

No pressure: Teoh Mei Xing (right) and Anna Cheong will play Stine Kuespert-Emma Moszczynski of Germany in the first round.

PETALING JAYA: National women’s doubles shuttler Teoh Mei Xing is looking for better fortunes in her second World Championships in Tokyo after suffering a first round exit in her debut in the 2021 edition.

Mei Xing is preparing to make her second appearance in the world meet on Monday and a first with Anna Cheong.

Last year in Huelva, Spain, the 25-year-old partnered Yap Ling but lost 18-21, 17-21 to Denmark’s Alexandra Boje-Mette Poulsen in their opening match.

Now, a wiser Mei Xing, who has shown great improvement in her partnership with Anna, is determined to perform better.

“Anna and I were only partnered in October last year. We couldn’t qualify for the World Championships at that time as it was held in December,” said Mei Xing.

“Now that we have made it, we want to do well.”

She admitted though that it would not be easy as the world No. 33 are slated to meet South Korea’s world No. 10 Jeong Na-eun-Kim Hye-jeong in the second round if they get past their first-round opponents Stine Kuespert-Emma Moszczynski of Germany.

Anna-Mei Xing had lost to the pair in the quarter-finals of the Malaysian Masters last month.

“Our draw is a bit tough, so we hope to play our best. We don’t want to give ourselves much pressure,” said Mei Xing.

The duo did well to stun world No. 3 Lee So-hee-Shin Seung-chan and world No. 6 Mayu Matsumoto-Wakana Nagahara en route to back-to-back quarter-final finishes in the Malaysian Open and Masters.

“Anna and I are still learning and improving our game, we hope to do the same in the world meet.”
