Zii Jia gets ready for four tournaments in two months

PETALING JAYA: Independent shuttler Lee Zii Jia will embark on a hectic schedule after confirming his participation for the Singapore Open.

Yesterday, the organisers confirmed that the world No. 5 is the latest edition in the star-studded cast for the Open that is making a return after a pandemic-enforced two-year hiatus from July 12-17.

The other entries confirmed are Indonesia’s Anthony Ginting (No. 6) and Jonatan Christie (No. 8).

The other stars set to grace the event are Denmark’s world No. 1 Viktor Axelsen, world No. 3 Anders Antonsen, Singapore’s 10th-ranked Loh Kean Yew and reigning SEA Games champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand.

The Singapore Open will be Zii Jia’s fourth tournament after the Indonesian Masters (June 7-12), Indonesian Open (June 14-19) and Malaysian Open (June 29-July 3).

It’s unsure whether he will be taking part in the Malaysian Masters (July 5-10).

After the Singapore Open, he may compete in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham (July 29-Aug 8), depending whether the Badminton Association of Malaysia pick him for national duty.

Tickets for the Open will be available for purchase via Ticketmaster. Fans can also enjoy early-bird rates which ends today. General sales will begin from June 1 to July 18.
