Internal battle for June Wei

Ready to fight: June Wei wants to make his first Thomas Cup Finals appearance this year.

PETALING JAYA: Singles shuttler Cheam June Wei may have produced an outstanding performance at the Asia Team Championships five months ago but he knows he is no shoo-in for the Thomas Cup Finals squad and cannot afford to slip up.

Playing at second singles in Manila, June Wei gunned down his more illustrious rivals like Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie, South Korea’s Son Wan-ho and Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto to help Malaysia finish as runners-up and qualify for this year’s Finals in Aarhus, Denmark from Oct 3-11 on merit.
