Jin Wei out to seek redemption against Ohori

National women’s singles shuttler Goh Jin Wei is ready to avenge her defeat to the Japanese star at the All- England last March.

The 18-year-old Jin Wei was oozing with class in her World Cham­pionships debut by destroying Pai Yu-po 21-8, 21-15 in 37 minutes at the Nanjing Youth Olympic Sports Park Arena here yesterday.

It was Jin Wei’s fifth straight win over the world No. 9 Taiwanese.

And Jin Wei immediately set her sights on her second-round encounter against Ohori tomorrow.

In Birmingham, Jin Wei was denied a place in the quarter-finals after going down fighting 22-24, 18-21.

“Having lost to her at the All- England, I’m eager to give her a good fight again and hopefully this time beat her,” said Jin Wei.

“Ohori is a world top 15 player, a much stronger opponent and I will need a different approach to deal with her,”

“I’ve to play even better than today.”

Teammate Soniia Cheah also enjoyed a winning debut when she downed Gayle Mahulette of Holland 21-13, 21-12 to set up a second-round clash against Japan’s Sayaka Sato today.

“I was facing a weaker opponent but she did give me a good warm-up match to get me ready against Sayaka,” said Soniia.

“It’s going to be really a tough one as Japanese players are always difficult to play against.

“But I think I stand a chance against her.”

Soniia said she’s glad to finally make her first appearance at the world meet and has vowed to make it a memorable one.

“I’m certainly looking for a breakthrough here this week.

“I waited to play on this stage long enough.

“Last year it was the Olympic year, while in the previous years I was quite injury prone,” she said.

Soniia qualified for her first World Championships in Guangzhou in 2013 but she suffered an Achilles tendon tear a month before the meet.
