Seng Zoe boosted World Junior meet chance with win in Alor Setar


PETALING JAYA: Penang’s Yeoh Seng Zoe collected his second Bukit Jalil Sports School’s (BJSS) scalp in as many days to claim the boy’s Under-18 badminton singles title in the National Junior Circuit GP Finals in Alor Setar.

Seng Zoe, who turns 18 next month, defeated the top-seeded Tan Jia Wei 21-19, 21-10 in the final on Saturday. A day earlier, he had beaten another BJSS shuttler Lee Zii Jia in the semi-finals.

With the victory, the Penangite has certainly staked a strong claim for a place in the World Junior Championships to be held in Lima, Peru, from Nov 4-15.

In the girls’ Under-18 doubles final, Selangor’s Lee Zhi Qing-Teoh Mei Xing came up tops by beating BJSS’ Anna Cheong Ching Yik-Desiree Siow Hao Shan 24-22, 18-21, 21-18 in the final.

M. Thinaah was the only BJSS winner in the Under-18 category. She defeated Johor’s Yap Yee 12-21, 21-19, 21-17 for the girls’ singles title.
