Zulfahmi adamant on getting one local to race in Malaysia GP

PETALING JAYA: SIC Racing Team manager Zulfahmi Khairuddin is working hard to make sure there is at least one local representative in the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit in October.

Zulfahmi said he is unable to make confirmation at this moment as negotiations are ongoing but said the most likely candidate will be Syarifuddin Azman, also known as Damok, who is currently competing in the JuniorGP World Championship with the SIC Racing Team.

“We started to put the plan into place after seeing the encouraging performance of my riders, especially Damok, who is now ranked fifth overall in the Junior GP World Championship (with 77 points).

Damok and another national rider Danial Syahmi Ahmad Shahril will compete in the fifth round at the Algarve Autodromo Circuit in Portugal this weekend.

“It is our intention to have a wild card racer racing in our home world championship MotoGP round.

“My aim to go to Portugal to join the riders is not just to support them but also to discuss the allocation of wild card slot with the teams.

“I can’t announce who the rider is as we are still negotiating but most likely it is Damok.

“We should be able to announce the name two weeks before the start of the Malaysian GP,” said the two-time Moto3 podium winner.
