KUALA LUMPUR: China’s Li Xuerui is not the type to back down from a challenge.

And the 24-year-old Xuerui showed just that to stave off a strong fight from India’s world No. 1 Saina Nehwal en route to a 13-21, 21-17, 22-20 victory in the women’s singles semi-final of the Malaysian Open on Saturday.
