PETALING JAYA: National sprinter Mohd Azeem Fahmi has qualified for the Asian Games men's 100m semi-final after finishing first in his heat.
Competing in the fifth heat at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on Thursday (Sept 24), the 22-year-old national record holder clocked 10.17s to finish first.
The semi-final race will take place on Friday (Sept 24).
Another Malaysian, Mohd Umaira Subri did his personal best by clocking 10.43s, and it was good enough to get to the semi-finals as well.
In his heat, Thailand’s Puripol Boonsoon won the heat with a time of 9.95s, the fastest among all the sprinters.
Azeem won a bronze medal at the last Asian Games while Puripol did better to take the silver. The defending champion is China's Xia Zhenye.
