PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s sprint relay quartets delivered a golden double at the Oman Grand Prix Bronze Tour 2026, but there is still ground to cover before the Asian Games from Sept 19-Oct 4.
The women’s 4x100m team of Azreen Nabila Alias, Izzatul Musfirah Kamal Azira, Nurul Wardatul Huwaida Hamka and Nur Aishah Rofina Aling clocked 46.07s for gold, while the men’s Quartet A – Pengiran Aidil Auf Hajam, Danish Iftikhar Mohd Roslee, Mohd Umaira Subri and Mohd Azeem Fahmi – came out tops in 39.18s.
Men’s Quartet B, comprising Umar Osman, Mohd Armin Zahryl Latif, Mohd Sayyid Amin Roslan and Mohd Haziq Mohd Akhir, added a bronze in 41.29s.
Despite the relay success, individual performances point to areas needing sharpening ahead of the continental showpiece.
In the men’s 200m, Pengiran topped the final two with 21.36s and Haziq clocked 21.56s, but the pair ended up sixth and seventh overall once both finals were combined.
Shereen Samson Vallabouy was Malaysia’s lone finisher in the women’s 200m, timing 24.44s for sixth out of 14 across two finals.
Armin also competed over the 110m hurdles, clocking 13.98s as he continues building rhythm ahead of Nagoya.
In the men’s 100m, held across four finals with 26 athletes, Azeem (10.37s, Final one) and Danish (10.37s, Final two) both finished in the top eight.
The women’s 100m, spread over three finals, saw Izzatul (11.95s), Aishah (12.04s) and Nurul (12.07s) feature in the final two, while Fatin Ilyana Mat Nayan (12.04s) and Azreen Nabila (12.38s) ran in Final 3.
Umar rounded off the meet with 46.65s in the 400m, placing seventh of 15 across two finals.
With the golds in Muscat offering a timely confidence boost, the focus now shifts to the team’s upcoming training camp in Japan, where coaches are expected to address the gaps exposed in the individual sprints and hurdles before the Asian Games begin.
