Abdul Latif Romly wins the fifth gold medal for Malaysia at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games

PETALING JAYA: Para long jump athlete Abdul Latif Romly soared high in his Commonwealth Games debut to deliver the fifth gold for Malaysia in Glasgow on Tuesday (July 28). 

The 29-year-old won the men's long jump T20 (intellectual disability) event with his third attempt leap of 7.17m to help complete the national contingent's five-gold target for the Commonwealth Games. 

There were more cheers as fellow Malaysian and teammate Eljoe Gotuoh, 22, secured the bronze with 6.51m at Scotstoun Stadium.

Canadian Noah Vucsics took the silver with a jump of 6.66m. 

Abdul Latif's gold medal is Malaysia's fifth in Glasgow. Weightlifting contributed the other four gold medals through Aniq Kasdan (men's 60kg), Mohd Aznil Bidin (men's 65kg), Mohd Erry Hidayat (men's 79kg) and Mohd Hafizuddin Roslin (men's 88kg).
