Umar Osman rewrites national 400m record in New Taipei

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian middle distance runner Umar Osman delivered a stunning performance at the New Taipei City Athletics Open, setting a new national record in the men’s 400m event.

Competing in the semi-finals, Umar crossed the finish line first with a time of 45.73s at the Taiwan National Stadium, eclipsing his previous national mark of 46.09s, which he set in the 2023 FISU World University Games in China.

The impressive run not only established a new national benchmark but also secured his place in the final later this evening.

With confidence riding high after his historic semi-final performance, all eyes will be on Umar when he returns to the track for the men’s 400m final at 6:40pm.
