Malaysian quartet smash national record to win 4x100m silver

Malaysia's 4x100m relay team

BANGKOK: Malaysia’s 4x100m quartet of Alif Iman Mohd Fahimi, Jonathan Nyepa, Pengiran Aidil Auf Hajam and Danish Iftikhar Mohd Roslee shattered the national record en route to a silver medal at the SEA Games here on Saturday (Dec 15).

Except for Jonathan, the rest were making their SEA Games debut, but the inexperience hardly showed as they tore down the track in 38.03s at the Supachalasai Stadium.

Their superb run erased the previous national mark of 39.09s, set by Mohd Azeem Fahmi, Mohd Arsyad Saat, Mohd Haiqal Hanafi and Mohd Zulfiqar Ismail at the 2021 Hanoi Games.

Hosts Thailand, powered by sprint king Puripol Boonson, claimed gold after smashing the Games record with a time of 38.28s.

Indonesia, led by Lalu Mohd Zohri, took bronze in 39.51s.
