BANGKOK: Ng Jing Xuan smashed the national record by more than three metres to clinch silver in the women's javelin final at the SEA Games.

The 21-year-old Sarawakian hurled the javelin 52.17m at the Supachalasai Stadium here on Saturday (Dec 13) erasing the previous national record of 49.34m set by Siti Nur Nadiah Othman at the 2014 Thailand Open.

The result was all the more impressive considering that Jing Xuan's previous personal best was 49.11m, achieved at the Philippines Open in May.

Thailand’s Jariya Wichaidit took gold with a throw of 55.64m, while Indonesia’s Nur Kamila Bahtiar claimed bronze after reaching 51.06m.
