PETALING JAYA: Malaysian dancer Tan Li Xuan made the country proud after emerging as the Asian champion in the Under-21 female solo Latin event at the Borneo Open International Dancesport Championship in Sarawak.
Li Xuan put on a strong performance at the Kuching Performing Arts Association to win gold, finishing ahead of Abby Lo of Hong Kong, while Malaysia’s Yap Wan Xin clinched the bronze medal.
Li Xuan’s dynamic expression, precise technique, and commanding stage presence earned her the prestigious title and marked a great moment for Malaysia in the region’s dancesport scene.
In addition to the success of the Asian Championship, Malaysian athletes also achieved great results in the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) ranking events.
The duo of Lee Chen Sheng and Hazel Tan emerged as champions in the youth Latin event while the Philippines’ Eidzreen Ibanez-Angie Ituralde and Hong Kong’s Chan Chak Fung-Leung Wing Yi took silver and bronze respectively.
In the rising star Latin event, the pairing of Lee Chong Sheng and Bernice Iu danced their way to gold.
Eidzreen-Angie bagged silver as Chen Sheng-Hazel made it a double podium for Malaysia with bronze.
